A New Year Spruce Up

It's the end of the holidays, and if you're anything like me, you're feeling major sparkle withdrawal. After all the bustle of Christmas get-togethers, the excitement of Christmas and New Year's celebrations, and the shimmer of holiday decorations, January can be a bit of a let down. But it can also be a time for fresh starts.

It's time to give our homes a spruce up, add new décor, organise, declutter, and cook some healthy nutritious meals. So here are some ways that you can spruce up your home after a fun filled Christmas.

Organise The Kitchen

Your house is likely filled with wrapping paper, pine needles, and tons of food and treats after the holidays. Cleaning up the holiday mess can seem like a daunting task, but the longer you wait, the worse it will become.

Before you can even begin organising your kitchen, you must first clear the clutter. There is a good chance that your kitchen, cupboards, and shelves are filled with all kinds of things. You may think it's obvious, but it's a good idea to get rid of anything you don't use. The general rule is, if you haven’t used something in a year, then it’s time to get rid of it. To prevent clutter building up in the new year, make sure you only buy the things you need.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

In most cases, a fresh coat of paint is needed every few years to make a room look its best. There are several ways to use paint to enhance the look of your home in addition to painting an entire room. Consider incorporating an accent wall into a room to draw attention to a particular area. You can use a contrasting colour or simply paint the wall a few shades darker, or perhaps add some panelling or a dado rail.

Bring Outdoors Inside

The use of greenery throughout the home gives it an instant botanical feel and makes you feel like you're in the great outdoors. Plants in the home have become one of the biggest design trends in recent years. People love bringing a bit of the outdoors inside, from huge fern trees to tiny succulents and even arrangements of herbs on kitchen windowsills. Besides looking nice and adding a bit of colour, they also purify the air and make you feel better.

Restyle Your Shelves.

When you need to refresh a room, take everything off the shelves. Using a soft cloth, dust the shelves beginning with the top one and working your way down. Replace everything, but arrange it differently this time. This small change can make an entire room look new if you haven't touched some décor items in a while.

Find Hidden Treasures in Charity Shops

You'll be surprised at the difference a coat of paint can make to charity shop finds. Don't disregard little hidden treasures, paint them white or black to make them look stylish and modern. Animal figures work particularly well for this and are on trend this season. Recently, we upcycled some bunnies that didn't match our décor. With a little sand, primer, and spray paint, they were soon upgraded to match our new décor.

Frame and Display Personal Photographs

A good way to transform your house into your home is to bring out your personal photos. The photos of your family and friends will bring a warm and cosy atmosphere to anyone who enters your home.

Now, displaying personal photos doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it can add a stylish touch to any room. Display some of your favourite memories in similar frames along the wall beside your staircase or down the hallway. The identical frames provide visual coordination and style.

We love using Wanapix for their photo printing services for our special photographs. However, they do so much more than that. The extensive collection of personalised jigsaw puzzles, mugs, cushions, photobooks to personalised hoodies, tees, baby clothes will definitely inspire you to spruce up your home or wardrobe. Additionally, there are designated drop down menus to help you choose gifts or feel inspired for loved ones.

Refresh Floors with a Well-Placed Rug

Rugs refresh floors and interiors, transforming them into something new and exciting. Whether you choose a monochrome rug, a floral design, or a shaggy rug, the choices are endless. A well-placed rug can draw the eye to a particular location on the floor. Also, you can play with shapes and textures to really showcase your theme, style, and personality. .

Update Curtains and Pillows

A new set of curtains or pillows can add personality and colour to any room. You might want to consider it for a little freshening up, especially at this time of year when every single place goes on sale. You can bring life to a room by adding a couple of pillows or a fresh set of curtains. We have added some contrasting pinks and greys to our new sofa that add a more visual appeal to the room.

Why not try some of these ideas to spruce up your home for the new year? Remember to give yourself plenty of time to decide on what to put in each room and which items will work best.
