The Perfect Autumnal Afternoon at Bowling House Norwich

I think it's pretty clear from the way it looks outside that Autumn is well and truly here, which means lots of things to look forward to. Autumn has to be, by far, my favourite season of the year. There's nothing quite like looking at the changing colours of nature, the fresh crisp air, chunky knits, tan boots, cinnamon scents, and not forgetting berry coloured lipsticks. I'm definitely looking forward to snuggling up in blankets and reading a good book whilst watching the rain outside in the coming months. Even though the nights are drawing in, temperatures are dropping there are many indoor and outdoor activities that can be enjoyed during the cooler months. So we have been embracing the autumn weather and created a Autumn bucket list that we can do as a family. A autumnal family afternoon at the Bowling House was the perfect way to kick start our list and so we thought that we would share a little more about our first autumnal outing.

Bowling House Norwich

Bowling House in Norwich brings a unique twist to any bowling experience and it's most definitely more than just a place to go bowling. The Bowling house has got an amazing vibe and is nothing I have ever seen before. It’s fairly small with only five lanes but this makes it feels atmospheric and fairly sophisticated, and would be the perfect place for a date night. The decor has a retro feel with a touch of industrial. Instead of concealing the industrial past of the building, the bowling house has decided to highlight it. Minimal walls, rough ceilings and large glass windows and as a result, the industrial interior design style is full of character. The menu is full of interesting dishes that are full of flavour and designed in a way to appeal to every taste and some of their cocktails look perfect to make my way through on a date night. The staff are lovely, kind and so helpful. From getting our bowling shoes, choosing our food, to being served and even seeing us out of the door. The service was excellent.

Getting to Bowling House was a little tricky. Based on Dereham Road in Norwich for those unfamiliar with the area it can be easily missed and the car park is not as visible as you may think. We were told that the car park is right next door but it's actually across the main road. However, it's only a few minutes away. We did get a little confused as we assumed that the bowling house would have their own car park. So make sure you continue pass the bowling house, over the next traffic lights you'll find the car park on the first left which is a pay and display car park £2.80 for a couple of hours.

Bowling at the Bowling House

On our visit we decided to go bowling and then have a bite to eat after. If you prefer your food whilst you bowl, you can do that too, just ask the waiter to bring your food over. But with a four year old we thought it would be better to bowl before eating. Before we get into this who bowling thing I need to confess that I am a terrible bowler, both my husband and daughter like to take advantage of that and relish in their victories. But more on that later. When we have been bowling before we have never got the chance to wear those fun  bowling shoes, at Bowling House they provide them for you, and will look after yours while you bowl. Our daughter's feet were a couple of sizes too small, which was disappointing for her as she really wanted to wear bowling shoes like we did.

The lanes were shorter than standard ones so power means nothing and perfect for those who are ready to unleash their competitive side and level the playing field. There are five lanes which are very close together so you'll be quite close to other bowlers, however this is ideal with slightly larger parties. We went to the bowling house in the early afternoon so it wasn't particularly busy, apart from a couple of other families which was quite nice. There were a different range of sizes with the balls, my daughter and I preferred bowling with the smaller balls and my husband preferred the heavier ones. Games are charged per person, per game. Adults are £5.80 on Mondays, £6.80 Tues to Thurs and weekends before 6pm, or £7.80 after six on the weekend. Kids (under 13) are £5, and are only allowed in the venue until 7pm. You can also get a Family Ticket any day before 6pm for £35 (two games for up to 4 people) or get 3 games for the price of 2 during the week or before 6 on the weekend.

Food at the Bowling House

Food at the bowling house was delicious! The menu was full of a selection of different dishes, with something to suit everyone. After building up an appetite, or needing to drown my sorrows in good food (for the loser, yep me) we decided to take a seat and look over the menu. The food included lots of fresh flavours and had some really interesting dishes. I especially loved the AMAZING punchy crispy Jalapenos, served with Parmesan mayo. When we visited the bowling house both my husband decided to get the Southern Fried Chicken Burger that was cooked in buttermilk and topped with BBQ sauce and service with Skin on Fries. We decided to get two side orders the Cajun Beer Battered Onions Rings with Blue Cheese Sauce and of course those crispy Jalapenos that certainly packed a punch. Our daughter decided to get the Mac & Cheese with a side order of chips! But the best thing of all???? They serve DIET COKE! Yes, a place that doesn't say 'Is Diet Pepsi Ok?' Winner hands down just for that. The food was really delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. Both my husband and I were more than satisfied with our meals, our daughter wasn't overly keen on the Mac & Cheese, but I don't know why because it was so good. However, she really enjoyed her chocolate ice cream that came as a part of her meal. I love the fact that the bowling house offered different drinks for children too, squash instead of those sugar filled Fruit Shoots!

As well as a great menu full of interesting dishes they have have the most amazing bar and the cocktails and wine list look amazing, one to save for a date night. Some seems quite expensive though, with cocktails I tend to want more than just one. However you can get two cocktails for £10 during Happy Hour which runs from Sunday to Thursday 9-11pm.

What Mimi Thought

Well as you can imagine, for a four year old, it was the best thing she had ever done. She enjoyed a family afternoon date at Bowling House, and even now a week or so on she is still telling friends and family about her day bowling and that she beat both Mummy and Daddy. Now I have be completely honest here, I am terrible at bowling. Actually when I come to think of it, I don't think I have ever won a game, that must be an accomplishment in itself, really? I am that bad that I ended up using both of my hands on the ball and going through my legs, it did help me get a strike. We have been bowling a couple of times with our daughter and she is still getting to grips with the rules and waiting her turn. At times when she reached for the bowling balls it did make me wince, as I didn't want her get her fingers trapped between two bowling balls. But she soon got the hang of taking her ball when told to and getting it to the ramp and loved pushing the ball off the ramp.

My daughter LOVED the food at the bowling house. We handed her the quirky menu and allowed her to choose her own meal and she decided on Mac & Cheese and as the waiter finished taking her order she shouted, I would love some chips too please. As our food came out, we were surprised that the waiter took note of her requests. Our daughter tried the Mac & Cheese, but after a while she took more interest in her chips and decided she preferred that and onion rings. In a nutshell, she had the best afternoon and has asked several times if we can go back, which we will!

What Tony Thought

A great atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food. I really loved the industrial feel of the interiors and the refurbished decor like the cinema chairs definitely adds character and were really comfy. The atmosphere of bowling house was really relaxed and the background music added to that, making our visit very enjoyable. The food was very good and the menu caters to all tastes, I cannot fault the menu whatsoever. I even like the fact that there were some games and activities incorporated on the children's menu to help occupy them. However, the activities don't stop with the children. There were also some retro board games like Othello, Boggle and Connect 4, everyone loves an old fashioned board game. And if that doesn't appeal to you there is also a foosball table too. In a nutshell a great afternoon for families and perfect place for a date night.

Becoming Focused and Productive with Utmost Me Neuro Focus Plus

As working at home mum, I have a lot on my plate. Staying focused can be tough with a constant stream of emails, social media promotion, pitching and phone calls demanding my attention. Amid the school runs, the household tasks, the cooked dinners and don’t even get me started on not being able to have time for myself, because that NEVER happens. My life schedule is a little hectic to say the least.

But then there are days where I just can’t get it together and feel like a failure. It’s those days that I feel as if no matter what I do I'm unable to achieve certain goals and there’s no way in hell I will get anything ticked off my to do list. But when lack of focus and drive comes more often than not - it’s time to look at it different. Times change and sometimes you need to adapt new habits, techniques, and maybe even dietary or supplemental techniques to best handle your life. I can only speak on the last bit so let’s talk supplements, more importantly focus enhancers.

So What are Focus Enhancers?

Focus enhancing supplements can be anything that helps you focus on a task. I know that sounded basic but that’s really it, and it’s a lot broader of a topic than you would think. People who can’t focus can’t focus for some reason and whatever targets that reason can be a focus enhancer whether this is related to a medication, your lifestyle, being a new parent and never sleeping or being over stimulated with too many cups of coffee. There is normally a reason why focus enhancers are effected.

If you’re the type of person to jump out of bed and go running before work then caffeine probably isn’t going to help you as much as a mild sedative could. If you’re the opposite and your brain fog likes to stick around all day, then taking a sedative isn't going to help you whatsoever. For me focus and concentration is something that is becoming a bit of thing for me, but not is a good way. I'm sure that I'm not alone in that. Most of us want to reach our true potential and may drink the odd cup of tea or coffee, or go for a run to stay awake and alert, so surely an all in one supplement would be more beneficial ensuring that you get a little bit of everything, rather too much of some and not enough of the thing you need. Let me tell you about Utmost Me.

Utmost Me: Neuro Focus Plus

We were kindly introduced to the wonderful word of Utmost Me and their new supplement Neuro Focus Plus. As I’m looking to use a supplement that will enhance my focus to improve my everyday productivity, these day supplements will be more suited to my needs. The Neuro Focus & Brain Energy Blend is a natural Nootropic formula. For those who are not aware of Nootropics they are foods or dietary supplements that support brain functions such as focus, memory and concentration. Lately, my focus hasn’t been the best and I’ve let everything get on top me and sometimes it can be quite overwhelming. I’m finding myself unable to focus on a single target for long periods of time before my mind wanders. It's that or another extreme on focusing on one task at a time where  I'm finding I switch off from other important issues. It’s times like this that a focus-enhancing supplements are a great way to help me focus and improve productivity. A happy medium between the two would be amazing.

By taking two capsule of the Neuro Focus Plus will help improve focus, concentration and productivity. Over the last two weeks we have been getting to grips with Utmost Me and their focus supplement. The primary ingredients are L-Tyrosine, which many people find helps with fatigue from stress, Rhodiola increases energy, endurance, strength, and mental capacity and Tumeric extract helps to boost attention. Neuro Focus Plus also  contain 75mg caffeine per two capsules to help give you a kick start to the day. You simply take two capsules a day with food; normally I take my supplements after my breakfast. Also keep in mind that if you take them consistently over five days with a break at the weekend and start a new set on the Monday, you will find a gradual difference with focus and concentration.

Did Neuro Focus Plus Work for Me?

I have using Utmost Me Neuro Focus Plus for a few weeks now and I can actually tell that my quality of focus has improved, as you can imagine I was a little dubious about whether the fact that such focus supplements could actually help, but I do feel it's making a difference. I have been waking up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day, with a four year old in tow, this supplement is just what I needed. I most definitely spending less time staring into space waiting for inspiration to land in my lap. Some ideas are popping into my head at such a crazy rate, I'm actually finding it hard to write everything down.

utmost focus supplements

But for me, the best thing about taking this supplements is that it's making a difference with my focus and concentration levels seemed to have soared meaning that I'm a more proactive blogger, also I don't constantly moan about how I don't feel inspired and unable to focus on tasks in hand. As I mentioned early I either focus solely on one task at a time, switching off completely to other important tasks that need my attention. Or when I do focus on the one thing my mind tends to wander and think about other things. But since taking these supplements, I have noticed slight changes with my focus and concentration which can only be a good thing right, and the more I take the supplement the more focused I will become. I'm beginning to get a happy medium between the two.

Pumpkin Hand Prints

Don't you just love Halloween? It's becoming my favourite time of year and we have been having some Halloween fun already. Last weekend that we had a little adventure to pick some pumpkins, baked the most delicious Spiced Loaf and now we are unleashing some creativity with these very cute pumpkins. Now how adorable are these little pumpkin hand prints? It's didn't take us too long to paint our hands and print them onto paper and even though we got a little messy it was so much FUN

To Make These Prints You'll Need:

Washable paints in orange and green

Baby wipes

How to Make The Pumpkin Prints

First task is to paint your child's palm, and make sure that you only paint the palm. My daughter is very independent and wanted to paint her own palm, they may get messy but it's worth all the smiles. However, when we did the pumpkins again we decided to clench our hands into a fist and paint from our knuckle to knuckle to create more realistic pumpkins.

After the palm is painted, take you child's hand and place it onto the paper and lightly press down, creating a print of your child's palm. This will be become your little pumpkin. As we were painting our hands and making the prints we were talking about each step as we went along. Simply repeat the steps as many times as you like, we decided to make a little pumpkin family, happily sitting in their pumpkin patch. Then allow your pumpkins to dry for at least ten minutes.

Once your pumpkins are dry it's now time to paint some faces. This is the perfect time to be creative. We decided to give our pumpkins blue eyes and noses, because, well why not. My daughter used her fingers to dot them onto the pumpkins. Then once they have faces it's time to paint on the stems and vines. Simply get your paintbrush and dip into the green paint and be creative. You could paint in a corn field or even a scarecrow.  Be as creative as you need.

So what do you think our our pumpkin hand prints? They are such a simple and easy craft to do with children and I am sure you'll have just as much fun as we did. You could even use this pumpkin hand prints for Halloween invitations, as decorations or just cards for family and friends.

How To Keep Mahogany Wood Furniture Clean

If you have a vintage piece of furniture made with mahogany wood, you probably want to keep the piece looking in the best possible condition. Since the furniture might even serve a purpose in your home, you need to take good care of it so that it can continue to be used for years to come. Here are our top tips on how to clean and look after your classic vintage dressing tables.

Here are our top tips on how to clean and look after your classic vintage dressing tables.

Cleaning Your Mahogany Furniture

Before you get started, you will need the following items:

* Mild soap
* Furniture wax
* Furniture polish
* Clean dust cloth
* Bucket
* Nylon scrubber

How to Clean Your Indoor Mahogany Dressing Table

The first step for your indoor mahogany dressing table is to ensure you regularly dust it. Always use a clean cloth duster to remove dirt and dust particles from the sides of the furniture and from any cushions, mirror, handles and drawers.

Next, use a good quality furniture polish or table wax to keep your furniture looking shiny and new. You can do this once a month. This will also help to protect the wood from becoming damaged as a result of termites or weather changes.

You should fill a spray can with furniture polish and spray it all over your dressing table. Then, use a clean dust cloth to evenly apply it. You can even apply the table wax the same way and then use a clean cloth to wipe it off.

Tips for Cleaning Your Outdoor Mahogany Furniture

If you have any outdoor mahogany furniture, here’s how to keep it clean and sparkling:

Half fill a bucket with soap and water. Dip your nylon scrubber into the mixture and scrub your furniture. Don’t use any other brushes or steel as they may be too harsh on the wood and risk permanently damaging it.

Wash off the soap water with clean water and leave the furniture to dry on its own. This helps to remove mildew and stains from the wood.

Apply a furniture polish or wax all over the furniture, rubbing it into the wood.

Use a good quality wood stain to bring back the dark mahogany hues to your furniture if it’s starting to show signs of fading.

Getting Rid of Stains on Mahogany

If your wood has water stains, either use lemon oil or a blotter cloth. With the blotter cloth, you can spread it on the stain and then run a warm iron over the stain until it disappears. If you’d prefer to use lemon oil, put a small amount straight onto the stain and leave it there to settle overnight. Wipe off any excess oil the next morning. If you want to conceal any scratches on your mahogany wood, you can dip cotton into iodine and then dab at the scratched area. Then, wipe it off using a clean cloth.

A Few More Tips

Always try to keep your furniture away from direct sunlight, regardless of whether it’s an indoor or outdoor piece. Sunlight can cause furniture to crack and fade. Even if you keep your pieces indoors, it can get damaged with constant sunlight exposure through a window. Also, try and keep pets away from the pieces as they can cause great damage to an antique item. With the tips above, you should be able to take good care of your mahogany furniture.

Making Crafts Fun Without The Mess with Little Brian Paint Sticks

Children absolutely love getting messy don't they? I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in saying that messy play is not my favourite way to keep my child occupied. If anything messy play cranks my stress levels up a notch or two. The thought of her painting my walls or dripping paint onto my brand new carpet doesn't fill me with positive vibes. We also don't really have the space or the resources to do a messy play session every week and let's be honest who really like the clean up anyway? It's an absolute nightmare when you have a certain little person willing to lend a hand, but creating more mess than when we started. But we do love to crafty and now that we are heading in towards half terms I need some fresh ideas to keep my daughter occupied without getting too messy.

We made a sort of revelation this week, stick paints! They are seriously the best invention and every single parent needs to get their hands on some. Little Brian Paint Sticks are amazing. They are a fun, clean, simple and very convenient way to paint, and I know that pretty much every parent will want a stash in their home. Why am I late to the paint stick party? Little Brian Paint Sticks have fast become the latest must have toy for any art or craft fan, all the fun without the mess!

We decided to spend the afternoon unleashing our creativity and get crafty. We couldn't wait to try these new paint sticks out and if I am being completely honest I think I was more excited than my daughter. But she soon became intrigued and decided to create a a masterpiece by herself. We were kindly send three different sets from Little Brian the Mini Paint Sticks, Metallic Paint Sticks, and Chalk Paints

The three different ranges of paint sticks that came through our door were so vibrant and in all the set the colours were beautifully bold, bright and perfect for creating some of the most colourful pieces of artwork. The paint sticks themselves looked almost like a glue stick where you could twist at the bottom. When using the paints they feel like oil pastels but they glide on paper so well. The paint itself has no odor and dries really fast, so much faster than conventional paints. Using a wet paint brush the colours can be spread and blended to create a watercolour effect. They also can be used for other art techniques like: stamping, overlaying, dotting and etching. There is literally no mess, no need for hand washing. As it dries so quickly there was no residue whatsoever left on clothing, on hands, the carpet or my walls, thankfully! All the fun, without the mess!!!

Mini Stick Paints

Oh I love these Mini Stick Paints, they are perfect for little hands. In this set there are 12 vibrant classic colours, but they also come in a pack of 24. My daughter loved creating lots of pretty pictures with these, even when the colour overlap they do so without smudging. For my daughter, these were her favourites out of all the sets, simply because she could hold these ones with ease as they glided over the paper. However, even though these are great for little ones I would say that the only downside to them is that the packaging is similar making it harder to distinguish between the colours. My daughter also found the caps a little fiddly and would need help taking them off and putting the back on. But we are going to get some of these for the other children in the family because they are so good for little people and there is literally no mess! What could be better.

Metallic Stick Paints

Now I am a little magpie and adore anything that sparkles, shimmers or has glitter in and my daughter is pretty much the same. This set comes in a pack of 6 or larger packs or 12 ranging from blue, green, pink, red and silver. The sticks are much larger than the mini sticks and my daughter held these quite well, but preferred the mini sticks. I love how bright these sticks are and you can see a slight shimmer before putting the pen to paper. These are fun for both adults and children. The packaging is different to the mini sticks and my daughter was able to pick up the colour of the pen she wanted rather than taking the lids off to take a look. The only downside to these larger pens is that little ones may struggle to get to grips with them. I also think that a narrow tip would be better for these, especially if the they like to colour in pictures or write with them.

Chalk Stick Paints

My daughter loves to get her easel out, we actually try to keep it out to help encourage her to write her letters and numbers. She loves to use her chalks and the eraser we have, but it always leaves a trail of dust behind her. However, being left with chalk is NEVER an option in this house anymore. A little while ago my daughter was left for literally a minute while I spoke to the postman and she managed to write with her chalk under the entire dining room table, and six chairs. I was amazed by her talents. But with these Little Brian Chalk Paints I don't have to worry about a trail of dust or her creating a chalk masterpiece underneath the dining room table. This set comes in a pack of 20 in an assortment of colours. They are the same size as crayons so they are perfect for little hands, better yet, they are dust free!!! The chalks are really creamy smooth ensuring that they glide over paper and chalkboards easily. You can then wipe away with a damp cloth and start again.

We have had so much fun making crafts but without the mess. These paint sticks are one of the best invention and something that every parent needs for their little ones. If you want to find out more about Little Brian Paint Sticks head over to their website here. If you want to purchase Little Brian Paint Sticks they are available on Amazon.  You need to go and grab some for yourself. Perfect for half term crafts, a gift just because or for Christmas stocking filler.
