One Year Of Blogging

I hope you are all well and having a lovely week. I have a very exciting post for you all as today is my blog's first birthday! Exactly one year ago today I published my first blog post here on Mimi Rose & Me. Last July at time when I just felt so low and my anxiety was at an all time high I decided to create a blog that I could really get focused on and hopefully get back to my old self. I wanted to create a place for me, be creative, write about things that are important to me and most of all document my life as a new parent. I remember that moment of publishing my first post so clearly. Sitting in bed, giving my post one last read through and then clicking the publish button. Ahhh!

And so my little journey began. This blog has done so many things for me as a person, it has kept me focused, encouraged me to be a positive person and take that extra step outside of my comfort zone. I have got to know so many amazing and brilliant people from writing this blog and I would never had expected the blogging community to be so welcoming. I would love to list all my favourite blogging buddies but you guys know who you are and without such lovely bloggers to get advice from or who are always up for a chat I probably wouldn't love blogging as much a I do.
So today, a year later, I am thrilled with the direction that Mimi Rose & Me is headed. I have worked with some amazing companies, become friends with so many great bloggers and written over 100 posts! I have so much more planned for Mimi Rose & Me with collaborations, a parenting series and working with more fantastic companies and bloggers. I am so excited for the year coming.
There is so  much that I have learned since becoming a blogger and there is so much more to learn. I wanted to share with you all three things that I have come to find during my first year of blogging...

Blogging is hard...

There is so much involved with blogging and it can take up quite a lot of your time. The only person in my life who truly understands how much time I have spent building my blog up is my husband - that's because he lives with me! So when people say that blogging is hard, they really do mean it and I shouldn't have underestimated how hard it can be. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE it. There is so  much too beyond reading blog posts and sharing your love with the world. There is writing the content, snapping the perfect photos, sharing on social media, commenting, reading other blogs and taking part in chats or linkies. It its hard work and despite it all I really wouldn't change it!

You will do anything to get the best photo...

Bloggers, you know exactly what I mean. No one takes a photo like a blogger. Every opportunity to snap is an opportunity for a blog post and when I say this I really mean it. The lengths I will go for that one perfect shot, whether I am standing on a chair on one leg or planking across the has to be perfect. I cannot eat something without taking a snap all for an opportunity to upload to Instagram and hashtag, you got to love a hashtag! My uncle thinks I am a little obsessed with them! Even my husband knows the deal with food in our home as he will always give me the best presented plate without me even asking!

Stay strong, be patient and don't change who you are...

I am not the most confident person I am pretty shy at times, until you get to know me and so sometimes I have a hard time putting myself out there. I started this blog because I wanted a place where I could channel my creativity and to have a place that was just for me. But it has become much more than that...over the last year I have taken chances to see where it takes me.

There are so many talented and clever bloggers out there, I find it exciting, entertaining but terribly intimidating. I always think 'I am not good enough' at least every other month! But despite this the blogging community is very supportive and it completely amazes me how the these groups support and celebrates one another.  I am forever learning new things when it comes to blogging and it is always great to want to do better for yourself and improve.

I am happy to say that it has been such an amazing experience and the success I have had in my first year of blogging has shown me what little self-confidence and taking steps outside my comfort zone can do.

Thank you to everyone for all your support over the last year. I love reading your comments and tweets I do truly feel loved. I have been blogging a year, what a difference a year makes and its been a great journey so far.

Bing Baking App

Mimi Rose & Me are really big fans of Bing and I am sure that if you are the owners of pre-schoolers who love CBeebies you would have heard of Bing Bunny. I have been so excited to tell you about a new app called Bing Baking that has been released by Acamar Films and Aardman Animations and its been a huge hit in our household because its based around biscuits...what could be better?

What is Bing Baking?

For the first time your little ones can be a part of Bing's colourful and playful world, where they can join him and Flop in their kitchen to create lots of mess for the best baking experience without any actual clearing up! You and your Bingster will have so much fun rolling, poking, squidging, cutting, cooking and decorating your very own biscuits. After all that hard work you can sit down and enjoy eating them with Bing and Flop. The Bing Baking app is £2.99 and available to download from the app store and will be coming to google play on the 11th August. This app is great value for money and just seeing my daughters face light up knowing that she will see Bing is worth it! If you fancy winning your own Bing Baking app then enter our #BingsterCompetition for a chance to win!!!
How does it work?

After a small introduction for parents it is then time to let the little ones loose on the app which will take your child through the different stages of baking first rolling out their dough with a rolling pin. Amelia had so much fun trying to roll out the dough and enjoyed poking the dough to make holes.

The next step was to choose your cutters and then figure out where to put them. For the first time when using this app I thought it would be a good idea to just stick to one cutter, it was also a great opportunity to name all the different shapes.

It was then time for Flop to put the biscuits into the oven to bake and wait with the help of the chicky timer. We were told to tap Flop on his shoulder once the chicky timer had finished. Since having the app we have however burned a couple of batches.

After Flop got the biscuits out of the oven it was time to get creative and decorate our biscuits. There was so much to choose from coloured sprinkles, chocolate buttons, icing, fruit and even carrot chunks.

Once we finished decorating our biscuits we could take a few snaps of our creations which were saved to my phones gallery and then they could be "eaten" along with Bing and Flop before making more. What do you think of our creation?

Why do we love Bing Baking?

Bing Baking has been very popular with my two-year old and her cousins and they haven't even watched Bing. All the children thoroughly enjoyed decorating their biscuits with lots of different ingredients, from different coloured icing and sprinkles to even chopped carrots. I think that this is such a great way for your little ones to show their creativity. As well as this the app is so realistic by teaching children how to cook without creating a mess. First they need to roll out their dough and then they will need to figure out where to put the cutters...we have had a few Bing cut outs that had no legs and no ears.

My daughter gets so excited when we play with the Bing Baking app and we are big fans and really couldn't find any fault. But to make this app even better I think that during the decorating process it would be a great idea to name all the colours, shapes and some foods in order to encourage further language development. But other than that it gets a big thumbs up from Mimi Rose & Me!

RECIPE | Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll Ups

The thing about these Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll Ups is that they are way to easy to make and taste so damn good. These are great alternative to breakfast and my daughter couldn't get enough of them and sshhh don't tell anyone but I couldn't resist trying them...

What you will need:

6 Slices fresh white bread, crusts removed
1/2 punnet of strawberries, diced
4 tbsp. Nutella
1/4 cup caster sugar

For the egg mixture:

1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
Pinch of salt

1. Combine the egg mixture in a bowl with a flat based large enough to lie the roll up in, whisk to combine. Cut the crusts off your slices of bread.

2. Use a rolling pin to roll the bread flat, this will make it easier to roll up.

3. Spread each piece of bread with Nutella and sprinkle strawberries along the bottom of each piece of bread. Roll up the bread, don't worry the Nutella will keep it sealed.

4. Roll each roll up in the egg mixture and place in the pan and repeat for the remaining roll ups and cook for around 4 minutes until each side is golden, turning every so often.

5. Remove from the pan and immediately place in the sugar. Roll to coat in sugar, then remove. Repeat with the remaining roll ups.

Do You Kiss Your Child On The Lips?

So this photo?

© Victoria Beckham/INSTAGRAM

What do you see?

I see a beautifully captured moment between a mother and her daughter! A great bond. A mother who loves her child. A child who adores her Mummy. But this harmless picture has been a hot topic over social media this week. This picture of Victoria Beckham kissing her daughter Harper on the lips has been faced with a backlash of criticism. To be honest this is not the first time that the Beckham's have come under fire and been trolled about their parenting skills...This snap has been liked more than half a million times and with over 4,000 comments. Whilst many have been leaving comments wishing Harper a happy birthday there were some comments that saw the picture as 'weird'! So much so that some even made comments that the picture was 'inappropriate' and in turn this has caused a debate as to whether it's appropriate to kiss your child on the lips.

I cannot believe how very sad society has become, I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion on this issue but to actually feel 'disgusted' over a mother and daughters display of affection is very worrying!!! I don't think that there is a problem with a parent showing their child affection and if we think about it if all parents showed their child more affection then maybe they will feel more loved and perhaps become open minded when they are older. Am I alone in thinking that this normal behaviour?

I have always kissed my daughter on the lips and I will continue to do so until she becomes a grumpy teenager. I do think that the people that made inappropriate comments actually need to look at the picture and see a mother kissing her daughter is simply just that, there is nothing sexual, there is nothing 'inappropriate' and it is not 'disgusting'. It is a beautifully captured moment. You can clearly see that Victoria Beckham loves her children just like I love my daughter and that will never change no matter how old she is after all love is love and a parents love for their child is like no other. I will always kiss my daughter on the lips.

I would love to know what you think, is it appropriate to kiss your child on the lips?

Avon Wild Berries & Pomegranate Creamy Yoghurt Body Scrub

Normally I like to keep my skincare routine as simple as possible but I do like to venture into the unknown from time to time. On this occasion I decided to try the Avon Naturals Body Care Wild Berries & Pomegranate Creamy Yoghurt Body Scrub. I know what a description but it sounds so good.

So this body scrub is packed with cranberry seeds and vitamins C and E that will give your skin a polished glow and a smooth, energized feel. While you use this amazing scrub you can enjoy the scents of sweet Chantilly cream with hints of pomegranate and raspberry. But there is even better news - there is also a yoghurt shower gel and body lotion within this Avon Naturals Body Care Sensational collection so what could be better?

Use Avon Naturals Body Care Wild Berries & Pomegranate Creamy Yogurt Exfoliating Body Scrub two to three times a week. Massage over body in gentle, circular motions, paying attention to rough, dry areas. The scrub rinses easily and your skin will feel silky soft, refreshed, and moisturised.

The scent is perfection, it smells good enough to eat! The only way to describe the scent is a luxurious, creamy, fruity scent which I think its perfect for the summer - it lasts all day. There is a great creaminess to the scrub which absorbs quickly into the skin and I don't always need to use extra moisturiser which saves time before heading out for the day. I have been using this body scrub for a few weeks and I can already see a change in my skin, it looks softer, healthier and I have no dry patches - which for someone who suffers with Eczema is a big bonus.

PRODUCT (5/5)

COST (5/5)

Oh yes, I definitely would. This product smells great, absorbs so well and has helped my skin look softer, healthier without causing any irritation to my Eczema patches and it has near enough cleared up.

Amelia's Two Year Update

After the little lady's birthday celebrations we can finally manage to catch a breath and get back to some sort of normality. So I thought now would be the perfect time to share Amelia's 2 year update with you all. I loved to write monthly updates for Amelia but I stopped when she was 17 months old, which I really regret because she changes so much from month to month. But she still has a few to look back on and I will try and do 6 monthly updates of her progress from hear on out.

Even though you are now two years old I want to tell you that you will always be my baby and this will never change. But you have changed - you have so much hair, you have become very tall and you continue to learn so many new skills. You love to make friends and you always get excited for playdates - you are definitely my little social butterfly. You have the most adorable personality and sometimes an even bigger attitude but most of all you make me smile everyday. I am just so proud to be able to call myself your mama because you truly are the best daughter anyone could ask for...

You weigh 24 lbs and you are measuring just over 33 inches. I cannot actually believe how tall you have grown over these past few weeks you are half the length of me and you can even reach the doors handles. I really wish you never discovered door handles and keys because whenever you have the chance to use keys and open and close doors you will. Hooorayyyy... you are finally fitting into some 18-24 month clothing but still most of your wardrobe is 12-18 months. Your feet are measuring between a 4 and a 5. You are also in size 5+ nappies and we are debating whether we should go up a size and use pulls up for a potty training but we are unsure whether pull ups would confuse you.

You're on and off your food again. Some days you will eat loads and some days you don't want to eat anything. I have been really struggling to get you to try and eat your evening meal, even if I cook your favourite pasta you sometimes still refuse. You love corn on the cob, homemade fish fingers and pears and we have discovered that you love jelly, I think that this is down to Nanny Plum from Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom though.

You have definitely developed a sense of humour and you will get when something is funny, laughing at the appropriate moment. You have become even more independent and you hate when I tell you no, this normally results in you running towards the sofa to have a dramatic fit! It makes me laugh every time. You are my social butterfly. Whenever we go into shops you will always say 'hi', 'bye' 'soon' to cashiers, it is so adorable. Whenever we go to Tiny Tots you look like you are having so much fun and have made lots of new friends. One of the class leaders thought that you were such an intelligent little girl and especially for a two year old - that was a proud Mama moment and I was smiling like a Cheshire cat all the way home.

The frown...for some unknown reason you have started to frown like your daddy when you don't like something or when an episode of Bing Bunny finishes. It is quite amusing when you do because it just looks so strange on you as you are always smiling.

George...You have an imaginary friend. I first heard about George during a 4am wake up call when I could hear you chatting away to George and asking if he was okay. George has been getting you into lots of trouble because he is the one that trumps, he is the one that pinches fruit out of the fruit bowl and George is the one that throws your knife and fork on the floor. Naughty George.

It seems that every other month your sleep patterns break. You don't always go for an afternoon nap it is normally an every other day occurrence and you have been waking during the night. Most days your bedtime routine works like a charm and you will go to sleep okay, but regardless of your bedtime you have been regularly wide awake a 4am chatting away to George!

You love to dance. Whenever your favourite programmes opening credits come on you dance straight away. I cannot help but giggle when you dance because you turn your head and your eyes go straight to the left, its like you are waiting for yourself to get around. I don't think I can explain it really, but its so funny. I am hoping we can do some baby ballet classes now that you are two, so watch this space.

You are obsessed with "Old Macdonald Had a Farm" and you will tell me what animal noise to make. To be honest I feel sorry for poor Old Macdonald because he has a wide range of animals on his farm from fish, bees, pigs to monkeys, crocodiles and even dinosaurs! Poor Old Macdonald has his work cut out for him!

Your dislikes are baked beans, meat and hummus. You hate the word no and whenever I asked you to change your bum - you will run and hide from me. This is a bit obvious but you hate when we put your in your corner for a time out, to be honest its very rare we have to give you a time out but when we do you hate it.

I counted your teeth today you have eight! Some are being stubborn little buggers waiting for them to come through - you have been having a few bad nights but nothing to be too concerned about, they will come through when the are ready. Potty are doing so well and I am so proud of you. I do think that you are beginning to understand what you have to do - its definitely not because of the chocolate buttons. But this is still a working progress and I am sure we will get there soon.

Chatterbox...You can say so many words now it really is too many to count. We have got quite a few flashcards and they have been brilliant in developing your word count and you can even say Mimi Rose. But with all those new words you can sometimes mispronounce words...especially clock!!!! You are talking in full sentences and you have beautiful manners with please, thank you and sorry right on cue. You know so many colours and you spot them around you, all the colours of the rainbow. I love to hear you say orange its the cutest!
