6 Years of Amelia Rose

Amelia Rose,

Today my sweet daughter, you are 6 years old. I can barely believe it. From the moment you were born, my heart was yours. I looked into those beautiful eyes and knew that you were going to change my whole world completely. All my hopes and dreams came alive in that moment.

I remember laying you in my arms with your soft black black hair, little fingers and toes. You had the cutest ears and the little button nose. You looked up at me and the world melted away, taking my breath with your very first cries. I never knew love until this day and I waited so long to see your face and I will forever cherish you my precious little girl.

Six years of adventures, six years of milestones, six years of memories that I remember as if they happened a moment ago. But most of all, six wonderful years of loving you. I'm in complete awe of the little girl who you have grown into. You still have those beautiful round eyes and that perfect little smile when you laugh. You never hold back when you find something funny and I love that about you. Time and time again you always show me that your sweet side is evened out by your sassy side, oh and you love to be sassy!

Your patience, compassion, empathy and kindness has taught me so much. You are so sweet, loving, creative and you never stop imagining or caring about all your friends and family. You are confident and you are so determined about all the things you want to do and not afraid to say so - it is something that I really admire about you.

You have faced some big struggles in your little life but your strength and perseverance amazes me and seeing you overcome these makes me so proud of you. Please though little lady, if you do ever take anything to heart just know that you are perfect just the way you are. Remember to never allow someone to dull your sparkle, always be yourself and know that you are enough.

A big milestone this year for both of us was signing you up to rainbows. I will never forget your first session and you wanting me to hold your hand and stay for the entire session, but afterwards you told me that you are a big girl and you will be brave enough to go on our own next week.  I felt a pang in the pit of my stomach, and yes I was a little sad because you were growing up, but I was also incredibly proud of you.

One of your favourite things to do is cook with me and you are such a great little helper, unless you need to sieve flour. But you love getting creative in the kitchen developing new recipes and licking the spoon at every opportunity possible. I adore how much you love the world, love the planet and your biggest hope for life is that everyone will work together to help save the animals. You are still pretty determined that one day you will become a vet and we will often find you lining up your toy animals ready for their visit. It's the sweetest playtime with you. I just know that you will always be kind and caring. If only people had a sprinkle of your kind heart the world would be a better place.

You love getting out into the garden for some sunshine and a bit of fresh air to engage with the natural world. You are not afraid of getting dirty and you always get so excited to tell me that plants are growing or your flowers in your fairy garden are blooming. You will happily sit there for hours playing with all the fairies and their houses with imaginative play. I love listening to your amazing little adventures, even when you don't think I'm listening.

You still love to get creative with crafts every chance you can. You are giving and caring and are only too happy to make a picture for friends and family, we often feel so lucky when we are one of those people. You can create something out of an old egg box or milk carton in seconds, your creativity amazes me sometimes. You have this thing for creating little mini houses for all your small toys at the moment and each time you get more creative with your interior skills too.

Although this isn't perhaps how we would have planned your birthday. The world is a strange place at the moment and life feels pretty uncertain. You have not been to school, had a playdate, visited the beach in months. Life is odd. But if anything wonderful has come out of this lockdown is spending so much time with you. You have the best personality full of cheek and sass too, but you really are a wonderful person.

You are such an affectionate child and caring. Positive, bouncy and full of energy. You love a good cuddle and you are strong and determined. It’s not unusual for you to go to sleep singing and wake up singing. You completed our family six years ago and I'm forever grateful that we have been given those six years with you. Everyday with you is an absolute blessing. I love you. Happy 6th Birthday, my little miss sunshine.

BIRCHBOX - June 2020: Born in the USA

Introducing the ‘Born in the USA’ June BIRCHBOX! This month, there is a big focus on acknowledging what is happening across the world right now and all those that have been deeply effected. It has been a vary sad and frightening time so it was a touching gesture for Birchbox to add a little note to all subscribers so say that they are listening and want to make a change. Birchbox are listening and made donations to Black Lives Matter, the George Floyd Memorial Fund, Brooklyn Bail Fund, Reclaim The Black and Black Visions Collective. Birchbox have mentioned that this is the beginning and that they are committed to continuing and sharing to fight justice.

The June BIRCHBOX has been perfectly designed to bring the best of beauty across the Atlantic with their stars and stripe designs in red, white and blue. A box filled with 5 beauty must-haves with their June edit that will introduce subscribers to rejuvenating eyes, taming haircare and more to unleash a bit of beauty across the pond. This month subscribers will find a Real Chemistry Peel or Foaming Cleanser, a Magnitone Cleansing Cloth and a Wink Lux Concealer in either Light, Light Beige, Medium, Deep or Rich. It's a goody this month!

Birchbox is £12.95 per month, and it’s a rolling contract so you can cancel your subscription at any time. All beauty boxes are having delays this month due to the global crisis, so don’t panic if your box takes longer than normal to arrive. So without further ado let's take a closer look.

Real Chemistry. Luminous 3-Minute Peel. RRP £48.

This month subscribers could choose either a Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel or a Real Chemistry Fresh Start Foaming Cleanser and so the only choice for me was a peel. You just can't beat a Sunday afternoon with a good face mask or peel to help kick start an evening of self-care. This acid-free (yay for those with sensitive skin) face peel that removes dead skin cells as you massage across your face. Unlike most skincare products that start working after a certain amount of time, this delivers results upon the first use. I didn’t notice much fragrance, and the peel itself is easy and pleasant. Just squeeze a little bit out, and massage onto your face.

Patchology. FlashPatch Rejuvenating Eye Gel Patches. RRP £14.

These Rejuvenating Eye Gel Patches are perfect for rejuvenating tired eyes in the morning. Helping to reduce puffiness, refresh dry skin and visibly brighten to help fake a full eight hours rest, these hard-working gels are an absolute must-try. I loved using these first thing in the morning and that puffiness around the eyes, dryness etc all reduced. I also loved the fact that they didn't slide off my face which tends to happen with a lot of eye patches.

Magnitone WipeOut!. Eco-Friendly Microfibre Cleansing Cloth. RRP £20.

Removing makeup is the bain of my life, it's probably the part of day I least look forward to. So I was intrigued to find this little cloth in my Birchbox this month. You simply wet the cloth and massage over your face to break down impurities and removes all types of makeup. But get this? The 100% bamboo microfibres of this cleansing cloth swell up when wet, grabbing hold of makeup particles and trapping them in a cloth, meaning makeup is removed, smear free. It can last up to 1000 washes, so it's sure to stand the test of time.

Number 4. Jour d'automne Blow Dry Lotion. RRP £25.

I came across Number 4 a few boxes ago with their sugar spray and if was amazing and gave my hair a lot of texture, and their soothing balm is pretty good too. This Blow Dry Lotion minimises frizz, restores softness and protects against humidity and heat damage. Part thermal protector and part leave in treatment, this lotion helps your hair dry up to 50% faster and is packed with natural botanicals to keep your strands healthy. I have tried using this a couple of times and even though my hair feels super smooth and soft, it still took me the same amount of time to dry my hair - so it shortfalls on that part.

Winky Lux. Peeper Perfect Concealer in Light Beige. RRP £14.

Every tired mama needs bright eyes and this Winky Lux full coverage concealer will diffuse the look of uneven skin tone, blemishes and other imperfections. This concealer also contains collagen, hyaluronic acid, grapeseed extract, olive oil, and vitamin E to help my tired mama eyes. I’m shocked at how much I love this concealer! It’s a hydrating formula with good coverage and a natural radiant finish. A little goes a long way with this concealer, it can be really thick but the coverage you get is very nice. Easy to blend out and doesn’t look cakey on the skin.

I LOVED my Birchbox this month! It was full of product that I would normally use and I have made some new discoveries, which is my favourite part about being a subscriber! A lot of these products are going to be great for when I have some self care Sundays that's for sure.

So what did you think? Are you a Birchbox fan? If not, you should at least try a couple of boxes. A monthly Birchbox subscription, with no long-term commitment, costs just £10 (+ £2.95 P&P) per month.

Zoinks!! Are You Ready for Another Mystery with These New SCOOB! Toys?

As a child there was nothing quite like a Saturday morning on the sofa with my sister to watch Scooby and his friends catch the bad guys. It seems pretty unbelievable that this cartoon is fifty years old and still as popular with children today.

As we are stuck in lockdown we love watching films during our breaks from homeschooling, but there are only so many times you can watch princesses. So one afternoon I decided to watch Scooby Doo: The Movie with my daughter and she absolutely loved it. As a child this film is the best thing ever, as an adult Fred and his one liners are so cringe but too funny. Pretty much since that afternoon my daughter loves watching Scooby and the gang solving mysteries and unveiling the bad ghouls and ghosts. It such a classic and still, fifty years on, is loved by so many children.

So as you can imagine my daughter was really happy to learn that there is going to be a brand new film SCOOB! currently being launched in the US only. It will be coming to the UK very soon. However, in the meantime we have had a couple of toys sent over for her to play with. My daughter was kindly send the SCOOB! Action Figure Multi Pack and The Mystery Machine Playset - she very eager to open them.

SCOOB! The Mystery Machine Playset, £20

The Mystery Machine Playset was the first toy to catch her eye and I have to admit I was excited to get it out of the box too. But that was a challenge in itself - it was soooo hard to get out of the box! None of my daughter's toy have ever been that difficult before and after a good ten minute trying to take off the packaging and those annoying plastic wires, I needed a screwdriver anyway. Once The Mystery Machine was free my daughter loved role playing with Shaggy and Super Scoob in the Mystery Machine.

The Mystery Machine was a complete replica of the iconic van meaning that my daughter could get really imaginative with her role play. The Mystery Machine opens up to create a larger playset area and provide a lot more room for more mystery adventures for Scooby and his friends. Each side of the playset comes down and slots back into place when needed, but there is a way that they need go - my daughter didn't realise and was trying to force then back up.

In this set you also got a 5'' Shaggy figurine and he fitted perfectly in the front of the Mystery Machine, and you will be able to get in another Mystery Crew in there too. But it is a shame that it the cab doesn't open up completely, so you need to either slide them through the top or in the window. The figurines with the selection of toys all have poseable arms and legs and it can be a little tricky to position them correctly in the front of the Mystery Machine.

SCOOB! Action Figure Pack, £10

SCOOB! Action Multi Pack included five figurines: Super Scoob, Shaggy, Blue Falcon, Dick Dastardly and Two Rottens: Dusty Rotten and Black Rotten - they are a great addition for playtime with the Mystery Machine. All the figurines are 5'' and all have poseable arms and legs making play time a lot of fun. All the figurines have intricate detailing on them especially with the Two Rottens that looked really old and dirty, even my daughter asked if they were dirty and tried to clean them. We was a little disappointed that Super Scoob was too big to fit in the front cab of the Mystery Machine, however he could easily be put in the back of the van so it didn't bother my daughter too much.

The SCOOB! Mystery Machine Playset is only £20 and the SCOOB! Action Mulit Pack is £10 which seems really reasonable for the hours of fun you can have. There are a number of different toys in the SCOOB! collection which are all compatible with one another, including some plush toys and much more. You can get these SCOOB! toys from Argos, Smyth Toys, and Amazon.

**We have been kindly gifted these SCOOB! Toys from Evolution PR but as always my words and opinions are my own. Images are subject to copyright **

The Puppy Essentials That You Really Need + Free Checklist

Are you getting a puppy? Bringing a puppy home for the first time is always exciting, but can be pretty daunting too. Everyone knows that puppies are cute and adorable but becoming a dog owner is a really big responsibility. But to make sure that you puppy settles well into their new life, you must make sure that you have you will need for your new pup.  This ultimate puppy essential list full of must haves that you really need for your new addition, we have even included a free handy checklist to make it easier for you.

Puppies love to sleeping and napping so they will of course need a new comfy bed. Whether you're crate training or have a designated place for you puppy, giving them a bed from the first night can really ease them into their new surroundings. There are literally thousands of different beds to choose from to help your puppy feel safe and secure, but you must make sure it is big enough for them as they grow. We have a Miniature Dachshund so we knew that we only needed to get a small soft plush bed for him, however you could get a more sturdy bed like a wicker or plastic - but bare in mind they could be tempted to nibble on their new bed. Much like a baby, puppies love a soft fleece blanket so they cuddle with it on the sofa or floor. It is also good for travel so they can be comfy in the car.

Most puppies needs a high quality diet that provides protein, moderate fat, and limited carb content in addition to meeting other nutritional needs. There are hundreds of dog foods that you can pick from such as dry food, wet food, raw food or a combination of them. You could look for a food alternative to give them healthier puppy food than the chub rubbish much like our the breeder was feeding our pup on. Or, maybe your pup will hates kibble (like mine!) and refuse to eat it altogether. Research with the food is an absolute must.

Again, there are hundreds of choices and brands when it comes to food. Autarky offers a good range of hypoallergenic and naturally balanced recipes that contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. The Delicious Chicken Puppy was our choice as it was packed with good ingredients providing high-quality protein and is balanced to supply moderate energy levels which encourage steady growth.

After a couple of weeks with our pup we began to noticed a change in his coat and condition where he become really lethargic, his skin was flaking away and even losing his fur in patches. We were really worried and we took him to the vets who advised us to switch to a grain free diet and his condition has improved so much.

Fruit and vegetables are a wonderful healthy natural treats for your pup and most of those are already in our kitchen. However if you'd prefer to get them something from a local pet store there is an abundance of choice.

Chews? Puppies love to CHEW! But if you decided to get them for your pup is all down to preference. We don't mind and came across Earth Animal who offer a whole wide range of natural chews and treats for dogs made with only simple ingredients. The No-Hides® chews are delicious, durable and easily digestible they are healthier and long-lasting they make a great alternative to rawhide that pets love. So far, we have tried the No-Hide® Wholesome Chews in the flavours Chicken, Salmon and Beef. They are lasting him ages and at £3-£4 you can't really go wrong. Come on just look at that little face...

You can use any dish for this, there are some bowls specially designed to provide a non-slip grip, a nice low but wide opening, even bowls to slow down your dogs eating if they tend to inhale their food. Winston did have two stainless steel bowls but because he was so small his ears would touch the edges of the bowl and scare him. So we got him two deep set ceramic bowls that didn't scare him as his ear flapped on the sides, not only that but they helped to slow down his eating which make mealtimes less crazy.

Puppy training pads are a god send for any new puppy owner. They will literally save your floors and carpet from accidents while your new puppy masters toilet training. They are super absorbent and designed to encourage dogs to do their business on them instead of on your floors. Start by placing the pads near your their bed and as time goes on, slowly inch each new pad towards the door or designated toileting area.

Should we use a collar or harness? When it comes to Dachshunds, choosing the right one for was really important in keeping him comfortable and safe. In reality both will do what they need to do but it really down to choice.

As our puppy is so small getting him a collar wasn't easy, we needed to smallest one possible for his teeny neck. But somehow we managed to get a coastal blue leather collar and lead from Pets at Home for an absolute steal of £11!

The earlier you can get your puppy used to being groomed the better! A good shampoo and conditioner for your puppy can really make a difference to their skin and coat help preventing diseases and other health conditions. Not forgetting a soft bristle brush that will be gentle on your pups new skin. If you plan on clipping them too make sure you seek advise from a professional groomer or vet to ensure you know what you need to do. We also have this Puppy Fresh Spray which is a deodorising, vitamin enriched puppy spray that helps to reduce odour and keep puppies coat fresh, clean and healthy between washes. It smells just like baby talc.

All dogs have to go to the toilet at some point in the day, not picking up after your dog is against the law, so you’ll want to clean it up pronto.

Required by law, these are usually metal discs that will have your dog’s name and your contact details on them. Not only do ID tags look smart but they also help others get in touch with you if your puppy ever wanders off. You can get these made in pet stores, local key makers or even on Ebay or Amazon.

Puppies love to play so making sure you're stocked up on toys to keep them entertained is pretty important. Fun and functional, puppy toys are a MUST  as you don't want your puppy eating your new curtains, rugs or cushion - my pup tried eating the washing basket too. Be prepared. We have got our puppy a good mixture of soft toys, rubber ones and mini tennis balls. Without doubt, the Puppy Kong is a must have as it’s designed to be a chewing toy, but can also be filled with treats and used as a ball to teach your puppy to play fetch.

If you plan on ever travelling with your puppy by car, then you must securely fasten your pup for their safety. A harness lets you attach them to a seatbelt while a guard prevents them climbing over onto your backseats. As we had to travel a couple of hours to collect our puppy we used a travel carrier too which could be fastened to the seat belt, much like a booster seat to help keep them in place during the journey - just make sure that you add in a puppy pad for any little accidents.

A crate is not for everyone however if you are planning on crate training or travelling with your puppy then a good crate is an absolute must. Not only will a crate be a great training tool it will also provide a space for your puppy to feel safe and cosy. For the most part we will be taking our puppy with us on our adventures, however for those times he is unable to come we will use a crate as he will be secure and won't eat the house.

As much as you love your new four legged friend they will have accidents indoors, so you must make sure that your are well equipped to deal with those stains and odours in your home. There are a few great ones that you can get on the market, but one that controls odours and get rids of stains is your best bet. We have this Wee-Away Pet Stain and Odour Remover that rapidly neutralises and eliminates without using harmful chemicals.

Finding pet hair on floors, furniture, and clothing is a common pain point for pet owners. But there are plenty of ways for pet owners to keep their homes fresh and clean. Vamoosh Pet Hair Dissolver is the first pet hair remover for washing machines, and it will be something that most pet owners will appreciate. Using active oxygen, Vamoosh breaks down hair in the washing machine, leaving pet bedding, towels and blankets hair-free and clean.

If you take anything from this post, please make sure you and your pup are protected. Puppies need a lot of vaccinations in their first year and they like to eat ANYTHING in sight - so making sure you have the right insurance is so important. We had our pup three days and we've already been to the vets twice! However, you could also looking into puppy care plans to help cover costs on a monthly basis - it has helped give us piece of mind. We have signed our puppy to the Complete Care Health Plan with Vets for Pets for all the healthcare essentials, expert veterinary care and cost savings on routine treatments.

Owning a puppy is a real adventure, but by making sure you are prepared for anything then those first few weeks of settling into their new life will be a smoother transition. Brining home a new puppy is always exciting, just make sure you are prepared. Don't forget to download our free checklist to ensure you're as prepared as you can be.

5 Simple Ways to Reset Your Mind, Body & Soul During a Pandemic

From time to time, modern life and striving to want it all, can often leave us feeling overwhelmed. But that and the worldwide pandemic thrown into the mix can really make those overwhelming feelings worse and honestly most of us are living on the edge. A few months ago, none of us would have imagined a world where hugging a close friend or family member would feel like a luxury from a past life.

The current lockdown has made prioritising certain things a challenge. Most of us are working from home, doing food shopping, laundry, household chores, homeschooling our children and attending classes on zoom. So, that work life balance doesn't seem to be so smooth and life feels exhausting and overwhelming.

However there are some things that you could be doing to help take care of you, your mental health and wellbeing during these times of uncertainty. By doing these few things can really help you think clearly and make sure that you are able to look after yourself and those around you.

Stay Connected

With the outbreak of the pandemic, day to day life has changed overnight. We are being encouraged to stay at home as much as possible in order to help stop the spread, avoid meeting up with family and friends and homeschooling our children. While these steps are for everyone's safety, it does bring some other challenges too - staying connected.

Lots of people are finding the current situation difficult, so staying in touch could help them too. Try and keep in touch with your friends and family, by telephone, email or social media, or contact a helpline for emotional support. By maintaining healthy consistent relationships with your family and friends is so important when it comes to your mental wellbeing. It’s reassuring to know at this time that it can be easy to communicate with loved one from far and wide.

But if you’re feeling really alone, the Samaritans provide a 24-hour listening service: 116 123 and there are many other sources of support available. Never hesitate to pick up the phone. You are not alone.

Focus on The Facts

It's important to stay informed about the new guidelines that are being updated, as they change weekly. But before anything, just focus on the facts and the statistics not those articles that are based on an opinion. Social media is really bad for this type of content at the moment so it is best to try and limit your time spent on scrolling through social media.

Relax and Unwind

With everything that is going on in the world, most of us feel out of sorts and way more stressed than usual. Homeschoolers? I'm looking at you! After being in lockdown for how many weeks now? I have completely lost all sense of time and can't keep track. It’s important to acknowledge these feelings and remind each other to look after our physical and mental health.

When you're feeling overwhelmed, take the time to take a minute, breath, and focus as this can really help you deal with difficult emotions and worries. During this pandemic relaxation techniques have really help my anxiety - breathing techniques, meditation, reading and blogging are the best ways to keep those feeling in check. Since my daughter has been at home we have been doing some yoga sessions on Youtube that is suitable for little ones too, they have been a great way to relax and unwind before the day ahead.

Prioritise a Healthy Lifestyle

Our physical, mental, and spiritual health are connected and work together to create some kind of harmony, meaning one can't really work without the other. When your body is unhealthy, your mind might suffer. If you’re not fulfilling your soul, you might have trouble finding the physical the energy to do anything. By creating a daily routine can really help you take care of all these in your life.

Our physical health has a big impact on how we feel. At times like these, it can be easy to fall into unhealthy patterns of behaviour that end up making you feel worse. It is so important, now more than ever make time to help us feel good about ourselves. Support your immune system as best as you can by eating well, getting eight hours of sleep, exercising, alleviate stress, Women's health is also something that you should think about too. Regularly check ups, taking supplements to flood your body with all essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants - all to help your overall health.

Do Things You Love

If we are feeling worried, anxious, lonely or low, we may stop doing things we usually enjoy. So while we all have the rare opportunity to do something that you have always wanted to do, but never seem to have time for - now is your chance, Perhaps you have always wanted to train to run a marathon, show off your creative side, read a book, write a book - whatever you want, use this time to do what you love.

Make an effort to focus on your favourite hobby if it is something you can still do at home. If not, picking something new to learn at home might help. There are so many free tutorials and courses available online at the moment so you won't be short of an idea or two. Personally, photography has been a little passion of mine and I have never had to confidence or time to do course or tutorial, so I using the rare situation to do what I love.

The current lockdown has made prioritising certain things a challenge. Most of us are working from home, doing food shopping, laundry, household chores, homeschooling our children and attending classes on zoom. So, that work life balance doesn't seem to be so smooth and life feels exhausting and overwhelming. By doing these few things can really help you think clearly and make sure that you are able to look after yourself and those around you. Reset you mind, body and soul with these 5 simple things.

Keep safe everyone!
