A wonderful week in North Yorkshire filled with castles, walks, sunshine and ice cream. The end of the month saw us packed our bags and head to the charming village of Kirkby Fleetham in North Yorkshire for a much needed holiday. Beautiful, secluded, luxurious yet homely, with everything you could possibly want or need.
Tucked away down a quiet country lane, Pollard Cottage looks like it has been lifted straight off the cover of a postcard. It makes a wonderfully secluded retreat. This honey-coloured home is beautifully nestled in an idyllic location being situated next to a pub, so you can enjoy a refreshing drink after each day of adventure, while the nearby county town of Northallerton boasts even more pubs, eateries and shops. It makes Pollard Cottage the perfect choice for a family of three that are seeking a countryside adventure.
Pollard cottage offers cosy and welcoming accommodation spanning two floors and offering superb views. The barn conversion has been carefully designed and furnished offering a spacious location for up to three people and their dogs. Pollard cottage brings nature into the interiors with countryside animals art displays, rustic wooden furniture and neutral coloured walls and soft furnishings.
Country home décor would not be complete without bringing themes of nature into the home, referencing inspiration from nature throughout the interiors. There are two bedrooms, one bathroom and open plan kitchen fully equipped for every eventually you could possible imagine during your stay, including a rustic farmhouse dining table and teamed with flowers and a vintage-inspired fireplace.
Inside you will find a beautiful interior inviting you in to spend quality time with your loved ones; discover the sitting room where a woodburning stove awaits to warm the room as you settle down for a quiet night in front of the television.
Step through into a kitchen complete with grey laminated floors, marble surfaces, handmade cabinets, wooden effect windows, a modern oven and hob, washing machine, and fridge with an ice compartment – perfect for keeping your wine cool on late summer evenings. The patio outside is the perfect place to enjoy a drink as the sun sets, and on warmer evenings, you can enjoy an alfresco dinner out here too on the patio seating.
Back in the well-equipped kitchen, there’s everything you need to cook up a feast. Choose to dine at the table, or head outside to make the most of your glorious countryside settings while your canine companions play freely in the enclosed patio area. Just past the kitchen you will find the lounge, which is packed with original period features like stone walls, exposed freshly painted beams, and an woodburning large fireplace. In the evenings, you can set the mood by lighting the woodburning stove and cosying up on the comfy sofa to watch TV together.
On the first floor there were three bedrooms; a master king-size room, a single room and a small bathroom in between that included a walk in shower. The master king-size bedroom that’s beautifully finished, with low-lighting, plump cushions, with pops of sage greens and woodland animal theme throughout. You are immediately drawn to a bespoke light above the bed that has been entwined into a real tree branch with a beam along the top.
Our daughter had the single room and absolutely loved her room, the best part of the room according to her was her wooden cabinet that can only be opened with a vintage key. This room is best suited for a little one with a single bed, cabinet, bedside unit and chair adorned with patchwork cushions.
Even though the bathroom was small, it was adequate for the three of us. The bathroom had a walk-in shower, a toilet, a sink, a heated towel rail, and a large wall mirror with a mini shelf. Its contemporary style is complemented by decorative stone and oak, making it a perfect combination. Aside from the small bathroom size, there was no window in the bathroom, so it got quite hot upstairs the evenings.
Pollard cottage is situated in an ideal location offering stunning views across the Dales making this a place to enjoy the sunsets across the views in the evening. As soon as you walk through you feel warm, welcomed and cosy from the spacious living room with the log burner, a large kitchen that is fully equipped and rustic solid oak dining table. The living spaces offer something for everyone whatever the season that would appeal for families and couples alike.
Pollard Cottage was just a stone throw away from a nearby town of Northallerton with a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. We also ventured through to the beautiful and vibrant market town of Richmond with its iconic castle, fine historic buildings, sweeping cobbled market place, plenty of shops and riverside - it is certainly not to be missed.
Despite the rain during our day, we all had a wonderful time in Yorkshire. Our daughter was in her element, enjoying the sunshine, running through bright green fields, exploring castles, splashing in waterfalls and picking up rocks from her adventures. If you're looking for a great place to rest and recuperate then look no further than Pollard Cottage in Kirkby Fleetham.
