Affect Cosmetics. Matte Effect Translucent Rice Setting Powder

You may remember last month I discovered Affect Cosmetics in a beauty box, and seeing as I have been using their Matte Effect Translucent Rice Setting Powder over the last couple of weeks I thought that I would dedicate a whole post to this wonder powder. Now I must make a confession, I didn't have a clue what rice powder was but it is pretty new in the whole setting powder family, being a combination of mica and rice starch to give a perfect matte finish. I know that so many people and bloggers rave about banana powder, but for me it just seemed far too yellow for my skin tone. Move over banana powder, there's a new kid in town - rice powder.

Rice Powder is made up of mica & rice starch. Although this sounds quite odd to use to set your makeup, the combination of mica and rice starch gives a perfect matte finish. This amazing powder has been used for centuries as a natural skin lightener. It has essential anti-aging and oil absorbing properties, that makes it ideal for oily and acne prone skin type. It has anti-inflammatory properties that soothe burnt skin, making it smooth, whiter and radiant. Lately, I have been really struggling with my complexion and no amount of makeup stays on my face, leaving me with less than perfect finish. I have also started to notice that my makeup is really clinging to my dry patches. Over the last few weeks I have been changing up my cleansing routine and using a new moisturiser which seems to be helping so if you have dry skin and always worry about using setting powders this rice powder is perfect as it’s non drying! The formula doesn’t settle into fine lines or pores so it never looks too much like some powders. It leaves your skin feeling soft smooth and matte.

Being a mum to one, you could say that I am prone to dark circles. Actually if anything they are getting darker so lots of concealer is a must when it comes to my makeup. But even then my concealer doesn't always like to stay put which is why I like to try and set it, and this rice powder is perfect for this. I simply like to dip my concealer brush into the rice powder and dab off the excess with a beauty blender. This rice powder is also great for defining your contour. To be honest I am new to this whole contouring idea and can't help but think to myself why didn't I dabble in it sooner? But if you're in the same boat as me and just starting out this is the perfect way to enhance a contoured look to the entire face. As I said before I am new to this whole contour thing but for a subtle look I start by adding a contour into the hollows of my cheek bones, then I smile like a Cheshire cat to add the blush to my apples and to finish I will add the highlighter all over my cheeks. Once you have contoured your cheekbones with powder, stick or cream, take a small makeup brush and dip it in the rice powder applying a small amount of powder. Then take a beauty blender and blend the powder into your skin by dabbing it over the powder for a perfectly defined contour.

Have you ever used rice powder before?
