Key Equipment To Develop All-Round Fitness Without Setting Foot In The Gym

|
If you’re passionate about exercise or simply trying to improve your health, then you may have noticed that going to the gym is a major drag. Whether it’s annoying commutes, expensive memberships, or crowed workout areas, many people find it much easier to exercise elsewhere. What’s handy to know is that much of the equipment found in a commercial gym is superfluous. You actually don’t need that much equipment to get in a good workout. If you do plan to workout at home, then you should consider getting the items shown below.

A Yoga Mat

It sounds too simple, but a good mat is all that’s needed to undertake almost every ab exercise. From sit-ups to leg raises, all you need is a comfortable way to get down on the floor. You will also find that a mat is crucial for a variety of stretches.

A Pull-Up Bar

A simple and highly effective way to develop upper body strength is by doing pull-ups. Even if you can’t do one yet, you may be able to do more basic variations, such as jumping or assisted pull-ups. What’s best is that to do them, all you need is a sturdy bar that can handle your weight.

A Set Of Dumbells

Whether you want to do overhead presses, curls, rows, and everything in between, you will find that a good set of dumbbells will do the job. They are one of the most versatile pieces of weight-training equipment, so make sure you include them in your home gym.

A Barbell And Bench

If you can afford it, consider getting a bench with a full-length barbell. Even if you’re not a bench-presser, you will find that both pieces of equipment have a variety of uses. A bench can be used for chest flies, dumbbell rows, stretches, and much more. A barbell can be used for curls, presses, deadlifts, rows, clean, and much more.

A Skipping Rope

You surely learned to skip as a kid so consider learning again as an adult. Skipping is an effective cardio workout for just about everyone. Boxers used it for decades for good reason. If you don’t believe it, then try skipping hard for ten minutes to see what we mean. Of course, some people may prefer to purchase a pair of running shoes or the best beginner mountain bike so that they can do their cardio outside. Nothing wrong with that! The choice is up to you, but if the weather is bad you can always stay home and skip!

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to drag yourself to the gym if you can’t afford it or simply don't feel comfortable in a gym setting. It can be a lot more enjoyable to work out from the privacy and comfort of your own home. What’s best is that you don't need to spend thousands on fancy gym machines. When setting up your home gym, all you need is basic equipment to get in a great workout.
