Explore The Adventure: A Visit To The Seaside in the Winter!

Although some people will only think that visiting the seaside is only for the summer there are so many wonderful things that you can do that does not require getting wet or cold (providing its not pouring down with rain, of course). I know that you will think that I am completely bonkers but you should take a trip to the seaside during the winter! Believe me when I say that there is a certain appeal to seeing the coast in all its beauty in the colder weather. Going to the beach is a different experience altogether and the best part about it all? More often than not you will have a whole stretch of beach to yourselves so little ones can run wild and you will always be able to see where they are from any vantage point. So without further ado here are my reasons as to why you should go to the coast in the winter...

1. Beautiful photo opportunities

I am not the best at taking photographs however this does not stop me from snapping away. Both my husband and I love to get our camera out and a beach in the winter is perfect location for those beautiful landscape photos. But we will always make sure that we take lots of photos of our daughter and an odd selfie or two.

2. Shell collecting.

I can always remember shell collecting when I was child and now my little one is old enough she will be able to enjoy it as much as I did. Thinking back to a visit to the beach in the winter with our niece, I was soon to realise how much she enjoyed shell collecting when I took her coat off and was covered in shells and sand! Lets just hope that our daughter doesn't do the same at our next visit to the beach I really don't fancy getting sand EVERYWHERE again! Just remember to save your treasures you collect from your trip to the beach. As they can be made into a crafty masterpiece made become a little keepsake to look back on.

3. Fly a kite.

Lets go fly a kite, up to the highest height... Little ones love flying kites and if you don't have one it could be fun trying to make one. I have come across some great tutorials from My Best Kite that show in detail how to make small kites for small children to the larger flying creation for the bigger children. Yes Dads we are talking about you!

4. Make sand castles

An outing to the beach, even in the winter, is not complete with getting sand everywhere. So you best make sure that you dig out your bucket and spade from the garden shed as you will be needing it.

5. Play Games

Don't let the cold weather stop you from playing some of your favourite games at the beach, everyone loves a kick about so go get yourself sandy. You never know you may fancy a little paddle in the sea to cool down from building up a sweat. Or maybe not!

6 Lastly...

A visit to the seaside is not complete without indulging in some fresh fish and chips as you walk along the promenade. However if the cold does get too much you could always enjoy your hot food in a car and watch the waves crash against the shore.

What is your favourite winter activity with your children?

  1. I am totally with you. My family and I absolutely love the beach all year round. I absolutely love it in winter, we too she'll collect and kite fly and I love how quiet it is. We take our dog and she runs all over. Most Sunday mornings are spent at the beach. I love taking photos too and this time of year you can get some beautiful cloudy skies to shoot. In Holland we have some great all year round beach cafes too and we love nipping inside for a hot chocolate with whipped cream in front of the fire. Lovely post!

    1. Thank you so much. I think it's so important for family to see a beach during the winter as opposed to just in the summer. It's so much better. There are only a few cafes and restaurants open all year round at our local beach, which is a shame. But we have taken our own picnic and ate that in the car. There are just so many great reasons why families should visit their local beaches during the winter months though. Thank you so much for your lovely comments and for stopping by on the blog! x

  2. Hi Kelly-Anne, we are lucky enough to live close to several beaches and I much prefer visiting them in the winter or very early in the morning in the summer. going to the beach in the winter blows away the cobwebs and is perfect for letting children and dogs run free safely.

And a visit to the beach in the UK, wouldn't be complete without a bag of hot, salty chips and a pocket full of sand.

I would have to say that our favourite winter activity with the family is taking the dogs up the hills.

    xx
