Home Upgrades Worth Investing In

When you have a project list that is a mile long, it can be hard to narrow down your focus. If you're anything like me, you never really know where to begin. Whether some parts of your home are dated or not a functional as you would like, its time to get started on those home upgrades. But what home upgrades are worth investing in?

Modernise Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of your home. It often the room that you spend most of your time in, and if you decided to sell, its one of the first rooms that potential buyers will want to see. There's a saying that kitchens and bathrooms sell houses, and it's true. A modern, up-to-date kitchen is among the best upgrades to make to your home that are worth investing in.

Updating a kitchen can be as simple as just giving your kitchen cabinets a fresh coat of paint. Or it can be much more complex and involve an entirely new kitchen design. You don't have to upgrade every single aspect of your kitchen at once. Perhaps upgrade details like taller cabinets, a kitchen island, or an adding lighting underneath cabinets will be ideal for a modern up-to-date look.

We wanted to try and create a kitchen that was warm and inviting, yet simple and humble with natural wood, classic shaker style cabinetry, ceramic sink and a soft colour palette. A farmhouse design appealed to us the most because you can choose almost any colour scheme that works best for you and the space you have, whilst still maintaining a traditional farmhouse style.

Update the Bathroom

Our bathroom is often overlooked, and if we do make changes, they are rarely enough to make a difference. Bathrooms tend to have a small amount of space, so it is key that you utilise the space you have to its fullest. Nevertheless, people nowadays want their bathrooms to be a place of luxury, where they can relax and unwind.

A whole new bathroom suite isn’t always necessary and you’d be surprised how different a shower can look with new hardware and new tiles. But ripping a whole suite out and starting afresh may also be beneficial, especially if you want to change the layout of the room. A new bathroom should still meet all the practical requirements, be easy to maintain, and have a bit of style, too!

Big Windows are the Way to Go.

If you're making home upgrades, big windows are the way to go. It is something that we hope to install in our forever home in the coming months. Large windows allow a lot of light into a house, but you should also take care in the winter to choose glass that is strong and insulated so that heat won't escape. But choosing the right windows for your home upgrades s a tough job, there are so many different types, styles with a wider range of functionality - it can be pretty hard to narrow down your choices.

It is made up of materials like aluminium, steel, fiberglass, and wood. They are available in different styles, designs, colours, and sizes. We really want to get more light into our home, so a luxury upgrade that are worth investing in are definitely the windows and doors. We know that the windows that we have at the moment are more than ten years old and meanwhile they serves their purpose, if we want to sell our home, it will be worth investing in.

As most glazing is guaranteed to last at least 20 years, it makes it a very worthwhile investment.

Light Fixtures

Lighting is also important to consider when renovating and upgrading your home. Replacing outdated light fixtures can make a huge difference and really make a room pop. Use bold, unique light fixtures to create a high-end look throughout the home, from the bedrooms and bathrooms to the dining room and kitchen. Light that is warm will create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere in front rooms, lounges, and bedrooms. It might not sound appealing, but a cool lighting works well in kitchens, home offices, and garages. If you want a touch of luxury, use a chandelier or LED stripe for a modern vibe.

New Floors

When it comes to choosing flooring for your home, it can feel like such a huge decision, and that's mostly because it is. When we moved into our home there was laminate floors throughout except for one small piece of vinyl on the landing, which was strange. But we wanted to get something in as soon as we possibly could. We narrowed it down to carpet, laminate, vinyl and wood flooring.

After debating on the best flooring for our family we decided for the most part that carpet was the best choice. With its cosiness and warmth, it makes a house feel like a home right away. Carpets are such a wonderful option and can be very affordable although they require maintenance from time to time.

Sometimes you just want that added bit of elegance when it comes to your flooring! After all, it’s something that can make or break an entire room. With that in mind, we explored luxury vinyl floor tiles for our kitchen and bathroom. Gone are the days that vinyl floor tiles were old-fashioned, cold, plastic looking floors. These days, it’s all about fresh, sophisticated and luxury vinyl flooring with a huge range of fantastic finishes, realistic textures and high quality construction methods that will last for years

Walk-in Wardrobes

Wardrobes with walk-in doors have always symbolised luxury and have become extremely popular in contemporary homes. It's possible to personalise and maximize your space with clever designs that keep your bedroom tidy and uncluttered. Not only do they make an excellent addition to homes that need a separate dressing area, but because they can be tailored to accommodate any layout.

Understairs Storage

One of the best ways to add extra storage to your home is to install understairs storage. With this clever solution underneath your stairs, you can store additional things and it blends seamlessly into your home. It’s not everyone’s first thought when choosing home upgrades, but it’s definitely worth the investment in the long run if you know you’ll need additional storage space in your house. We have just revamped under our stairs. We made some wooden shelves, added some brackets to make sure than they are strong and sturdy. Gave the under the stairs a lick of white paint and added a cute little light in there too.
