It's Time to Level Up Your Exfoliation Game

When it comes to creating a good skincare routine, it can be easy to get confused or feel overwhelmed with the plethora of products and brands available. The beauty industry is continuously evolving and that can be hard to keep up with all the new innovations. Everyone should have a skincare refresh shake up from time to time.

A good skincare routine doesn't have to be a 10-step routine to include a whole range of products. The best way to shake up a skincare routine is to not over complicated it and just give your skin what it needs. Go back to basics when it comes to cleansing and choosing a moisturiser that coincide with the changing seasons to ensure your skin is getting the level of moisture it needs. By adding an essence or serum can really do wonders for a skincare routine to help hydrate the skin and boost the skin barrier, but not overload your skin.

But, one of my favourite things to do to my skin is exfoliate. A good exfoliation is the holy grail that will always deliver instant results. It will help to wash away dead skin cells and leave your skin glowing so that the rest of your skincare can sink in and replenish all the goodness. So, yes, a good exfoliation is always for the win.

You can exfoliate your skin in many different ways; whether it's with a simple scrub, a face mask or one that's recently gained a lot of popularity, dermaplaning - curiosity got the better of me so I knew I needed to find out everything about dermaplaning.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a form of exfoliation that removes dead skin cells and peach fuzz from your face that leaves your skin feeling super smooth. It helps your makeup and skincare products settle better on your face, and it has even been known to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

There are so many great benefits about introducing dermaplaning into your skin care routine, you'll wonder why you haven't tried already. Not only will it remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz to help make your skin super smother and leave you looking more youthful. It can also be effective for treating hyperpigmentation on the surface of the skin as well as some minor scars, leading to a brighter and more even skin tone. With continued use, it can also be great for anti-aging, wrinkles, and fine lines.

And for those polycystic ovaries girlies - dermaplaning is something you need to try. You don’t have to shell out hundreds of pounds to get the full benefits of this treatment because it is so easy to try a home dermaplaning kit.

2. Take the safety cap off the razor and place it at a 45 degree angle.

3. On one side of your face and hold your skin taut with one hand.

4. Using the other hand, hold the dermaplaning tool at a 45-degree angle and gently move the tool in a downwards motion. Small, gentle strokes in a downward motion.

5. Repeat across your whole face to exfoliate the skin and remove all unwanted facial hair.

6. Cleanse and dry the skin and finish by applying a nourishing serums like the Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum to rehydrate the skin.

7. Then apply a barrier with a cream, serum or a few drops of oil such as Aloe Vera, Rosehip or a Vitamin E

Dermaplaning or Oilplaning?

A dermaplaning facial is typically done on freshly cleansed and dry skin. However, for the sensitive girlies, oilplaning is a wonderful alternative where you apply a facial before any removal. The best oil to use for dermaplaning depends on your skin type and your skin conditions.

By using a facial oil can make it easier for the razor to glide across the skin for a more gentle exfoliation and hair removal. Oilplaning is perfect for more dry skin types or especially sensitive skin types which may be irritated by dermaplaning on dry skin.

Oilplaning is for skin types that might get a reaction from dermaplaning on dry skin. This can include mature skin, dry skin, skin with a rough texture, sensitive and reactive skin, and eczema-prone skin. But, combination skin can choose either oilplaning or dermaplaning based on their preference.

Although oil dermaplaning is a good choice for most, there are still some exceptions. Those with raised lesions, contact dermatitis, open sores, and active or cystic acne should not undergo this kind of treatment at home, they should consult a dermatologist.

Don't Forget to Rehydrate and Replenish Your Skin.

Whether you go with dermaplaning or oilplaning, there are some really important aftercare tips that everyone should follow as your skin may be sensitive. As you're doing the treatment at home, it is important that you use a gentle cleanser to remove any dead skin cells or hair that may be left behind.

You must rehydrate your skin by using moisturising and nourishing products that will help restore the skin barrier. A product that left my skin feeling amazing was this Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum. It helped draw moisture to the face and lock moisture into your skin leaving my skin feeling super smooth and very hydrated.

The Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum has a beautiful blend of 5 fruit extracts that have been designed to give you a stunning GLOW after dermaplaning. All you need to do is apply 3-4 drops onto your face and neck to help dry skin and increase skin radiance. It is suitable for all skin types and the scent is amazing.

Let's Try Dermaplaning

First time dermaplaning for me was a little scary, but I prepared my skin beforehand and ensured it was clean and dry. Almost like shaving, you can hear the blade pulling every hair. However, the results are instant! After the first time, my cheeks did feel a little warm, but I applied my favourite Aloe barrier cream which cooled the skin. The next dermaplaning session, I thought it would be an ideal to try oilplaning instead with my Aloe Vera Gel. It left my skin feels super smooth and hydrated before I applied my Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum and barrier cream.

This Forever Dermaplaning Kit comes with everything you need to begin your dermaplaning. The luxury golden aluminium razor has been designed for a firm grip allowing you to gently remove unwanted facial hair, peach fuzz and give your skin a real exfoliation. I couldn't believe how easy it was to dermaplane that gave me instant results.
