Little Cook Box - Big Tastes for Little Cooks

If your child is anything like mine, mealtimes can be somewhat tricky and completely exhausting. I always like to try and cook my daughter something that is fresh, nutritious and packed full of goodness, but the same can't be said for the little lady. We have ongoing battle between cooking her a nutritious, homemade dinner or simply resorting to sticking something from the freezer into the oven. I am sure I am not the only parent who deals with this on a daily basis. However, the battle doesn't stop there. After turning her nose up to a home made meal, or asking for something else she takes so long to eat it! Meal times are becoming such a chore at the moment. A meal subscription box may be the perfect solution if you’re like the millions of busy parents, who have little to no time to plan a meal, go grocery shopping, and cook for it to be pushed away! Meal subscription boxes are convenient, they are nutritious, good for you, and they can save you a trip to the supermarket. Since meal subscription boxes are a great option for busy people, there is a significant number to choose from, and your options may be a little overwhelming. Something that I have never come across before is a subscription box for little people. I think that this will be a complete game changer for meal times. Let's say hello to Little Cook Box.

Who are Little Cook Box?

Philippa and Simon, founders of Little Cook Box, started the company because, as busy parents, they were struggling to feed their two boys healthy, delicious and nutritious food. The ‘old favourites’ were getting very stale and they found themselves opening the fridge time and again in search of inspiration that simply wasn’t there. Their solution was children’s meal kits specially designed for kids aged 5 to 11 years old. Delivered weekly, each of the meal kits can be cooked in 20 to 30 minutes, making it quick and easy to get a home cooked, healthy and yummy meal in children’s tummies. All of the ingredients come pre-chopped, peeled and washed in one simple tray, so there’s no time wasted thinking up a recipe, going to the supermarket and preparing the ingredients. Sounds pretty amazing!
We were all very excited when the delivery arrived, the special insulated box contained 4 beautifully packaged meal kits which she couldn’t wait to try. The Little Cook Box meals were an instant hit with both me and the little lady as she could pick which meal she wanted. All the hard work was taken out of the preparation of a home cooked meal as each section of the tray contained exactly the right amount of each ingredient. We were kindly send over Mighty Mini Burgers, Crazy Chicken Goujons, Sizzling Stir Fry Noodles and Crackin' Calzone.

Our favourite

Without a doubt our favourite are the Crazy Chicken Goujons. Even though my daughter is just three years old apart from placing them in the oven she did all the preparation for the Goujons and thoroughly enjoyed doing so by herself, under mummy's watchful eye of course. Each box has a separate compartment for each ingredient so you knew exactly what you needed to do, you simply tear back the film and get to work. These Crazy Chicken Goujons with tasty tomato relish & mayonnaise were simple and super delicious and are made with panko breadcrumbs, served in a wrap with crispy lettuce, sassy salsa and cool sour cream. Yum. But for us, it was the fact that even though she had become a little fussy in recent months she tried everything in the box, even the salsa. But you could clearly see that she took pride in knowing that she had prepared and cooked her meal before devouring the whole lot. Our least favourite of the four boxes we received was the Sizzling Stir Fry Noodles, my daughter just wasn't keen on the taste of the noodles. However, both my husband and I tucked into the noodles and couldn't understand why, because they were pretty tasty.

Our thoughts

We think that these are such a great way to keep meal times fun. For us, spending time in the kitchen to make these creations, teaching my lady how to cook was great fun, and it will help her with practical cooking skills that will be invaluable later in life. I love the fact that these little boxes of goodness introduces her to a whole new range of new flavours and foods we wouldn't normally make. Every meal that we received were so delicious in taste and we both enjoyed the cooking process, and it was stress-free. As a parent we are trying to instill a more healthier lifestyle as a family and limit all those naughty foods, and so portion control for our daughter is something that we are monitoring. The Little Cook Boxes are fresh, nutritious and just the right portion size for children, something which is often hard to judge at meal times. But all in all a great idea for little ones. Would the Little Cook Box range be something that you would try with your little one?
