Our Wedding Day

As you know, I am taking part in #Blotober17 and the prompt is date. At first I was thinking along the lines of creating the perfect date as parents, or a list of date night ideas you can do while at home those types of ideas. But then I thought about the most memorable dates to me, as there are quite a few of them. There are some that stand out more than other,s like the birth of my daughter, however I have so many posts focused on her birth and so I thought that I would talk about another memorable date that still, four years on makes me emotional. I'm such a soppy sod. So today I want to take you back to the day that I got to marry my best friend, partner in crime, and soul mate.

My most memorable date was in fact my wedding day. March 16th 2013! Our wedding day was truly a beautiful day, magical almost. It was all we could have dreamed of and then some more. It was so fantastic to share our beautiful day with all our family and closet friends. It was all exciting and surreal and I thought it would be the perfect time to take a stroll down memory lane to one of the most important days of my life so far.

It was a four years ago, to be precise – and if you’d asked me then I’d never have believed it would take me this long to get around to writing about our special day. Even now, I’m not sure why it did but today I would like to write about it! I adore telling people stories and I feel it's time that I told you about the things that has stayed with me over the last four years of happily married life, with a few photos. I love planning our wedding, so much so I even had a few ideas before the question was popped, but isn't that every girls prerogative? Most of my child hood would be spent playing dress up and pretending to get married and now that childhood dream was now becoming a reality. With all the planning, the excitement, the stress and a few tears - it was time, time to marry my best friend and the love of my life.

I don’t know when I woke up, I’ve no idea what I ate for breakfast. I just know that my Dad was trying everything in his power to get me to eat, but I just couldn't face it! I was so nervous and couldn't really focus on all what was around. At some point though, I know that my bridesmaid and flower girls turned up all ready and raring to go. My lovely friend came over to do our hair and make-up, while my photographer Tristan snapped the first photographs of the day. After a glass of champagne, the excitement and realisation that I was getting married finally set in...

It felt such a long time getting ready but it was time to walk downstairs to see my wedding party, parents and my Nan. We wasn't even out of the door before the emotion set in and we all had a cry. My Nan and Mum set off in their own cars, along with the bridesmaid, flower girls and page boys. My Dad and I set off in our Classic Beauford before I gave my Dad a special embroidered handkerchief, which probably wasn't the best time to give him as we started to cry again.

The church was just so beautiful. I’d been there just the night before, so that I gasped on arrival is testament to the incredible work of our arrangers were, and our assembled team of family and friends. It was truly beautiful. I couldn't wait to get inside to get married to the love of my life.

Our reverend performed a beautiful service for our family and friends and even included a reading that we asked my husband's step father to read: Marriage Joins Two People in the Circle of It's Love By Edmund O'Neill ~

Marriage is a commitment to life, the best that two people can find and bring out in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other relationship can equal. It is a physical and an emotional joining that is promised for a lifetime.

Within the circle of its love, marriage encompasses all of life's most important relationships. A wife and a husband are each other's best friend, confidant, lover, teacher, listener, and critic. And there may come times when one partner is heartbroken or ailing, and the love of the other may resemble the tender caring of a parent for a child.

Marriage deepens and enriches every facet of life. Happiness is fuller, memories are fresher, commitment is stronger, even anger is felt more strongly, and passes away more quickly.

Marriage understands and forgives the mistakes life is unable to avoid. It encourages and nurtures new life, new experiences, and new ways of expressing a love that is deeper than life.

When two people pledge their love and care for each other in marriage, they create a spirit unique unto themselves which binds them closer than any spoken or written words. Marriage is a promise, a potential made in the hearts of two people who love each other and takes a lifetime to fulfil.

We then got together to sing some hymns, prayers, followed by the blessing and the signing of the registers. When our photographer took the opportunity to take some lovely pictures of our family, friends and eventually us. It was a surreal moment and one that I will forever remember.

Our day was an unforgettable day and one that I will cherish forever. Four years ago we stood at the altar, and made our promises to one another. We were filled with so many hopes, dreams and looking forward to all the memories we were yet to create. Before getting married we knew that our life would be different, our marriage would be different. We would always put one another first, say I love you every day.... Four years ago today I remember taking the longest walk in my life. The most important walk that I will probably ever make. I remember those feelings as if it was yesterday, walking to my soon to be husband trying to hold back the tears...Finally what seemed like forever I made it to him. He gave me that cheeky wink, he would always give me and then told me that I am beautiful. I knew that he was the one for me pretty much straight away.. As corny as it sounds. It was love at first sight. Not having the courage to actually tell him was probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and with the help of others I made it him.
