Mardles Rocks!!!

As you may or may not know, a new treasure-hunt trend known as rock hunting has taken parts of the country by storm. Rock hunting involves decorating rocks, stones and pebbles, before hiding them for others to find. The stones are decorated using pen or paint, sealed to ensure they aren’t ruined by the rain and then those that find them are able to keep them or hide for someone else to enjoy. We have had some much fun creating some really pretty rocks for other people to find. And so Mardles have decided to put their own stamp on the rocking world.

Who are Mardles?

For those who are not familiar, Mardles are embracing Augmented Reality in the form of books that are sure to bring bedtime stories to life in 3D. The whole concept of Mardles was created after one of the founders discovered Augmented Reality in a furniture shop brochure and wondered why this technology has never been used for children to enjoy. So Sharon along with her tech whizz friend James came up with the concept of Mardles. Since then Mardles has grown from strength to strength and introduced many more fantastic products for children to enjoy. All of Mardles products have been designed and developed within the UK, such as 4D Colouring, Magic Masks, Stickers and stories all coming to life with a FREE app.

Last year, Mardles released two of their most unique products since their journey began. First was 'Mardles Stories' which are a unique collection of 5 captivating stories full of colourful characters with a moral to each tale. The magic happens when the free Mardles app is held over the pages, the entire scene comes alive in 3D and you can discover more and control the characters by tapping the screen. They also released 'Magic Masks' that take costume play to another level. Turn yourself or a family member into one of 20 3D characters ranging from Fairies and Ice queens to Zombies and Vikings with Mardles Magic Masks. All by simply pointing your phone or tablet at a mask to bring it to life on your screen. We have been having lots of fun with their book 'Don't Be Afraid Little Snail' along with some forest friends.

The Mardles Rock Project

As you know we are already familiar with rocking, we have been taking part in Norfolk Rocks for some time and the community seems to be getting bigger and bigger. So it was of course super exciting to discover that Mardles have their own rock project and it was something we needed to get involved with. The first thing that you need to download the Mardles app which is FREE and parent friendly, so no in app purchase or annoying adverts. Yay! And as soon as you have downloaded the Mardles app there is no need to have WIFI or phone signal in order to use the app.

So to join in with Mardles and their rock project, you will need some rocks. Choose your rock, it's best if the rock is flat making it easier for your creation. Simply give your rock a good wash whihc makes adding the sticker on the rock easier and hopefully won't fall off, however if they do, don't worry just add some PVA glue underneath and leave them to dry.

Now it's time to unleash some creativity with your rock. Just make sure that when you are unleashing that creativity that you don't doodle on the sticker. With over 60 difference designs from Mermaid and Unicorns to Tractors, Cows and Dinosaurs the wide range will guarantee to put a smile on their face. We have four packs of twelve stickers to choose from, some of our favourites are from the Cuties and Down On The Farm ranges. My daughter loves anything magical and adored the farm animals. We had so much fun watching cows moo, seeing pigs play in mud and there's even a tractor. What made these stickers even better is that you could even post for snap with the characters on the 'selfie' mode.  Something my daughter has now mastered.

On the back of your rock simply write 'You have found a Mardles Rock' and mention that they can download the Mardles app to see their rock come to life. Don't forget to varnish your rock before you go exploring a great hiding place for your brand new rock, with a difference. You can also join the MardlesRocks facebook page to find out where you rock is and whether it has been discovered. It's the perfect activity to do with the children over half term.
