Aaptiv, The Only Fitness App You'll Ever Need

Looking for the perfect pre- or postnatal workout on demand? There's an app for that! Aaptiv have launched a series of maternity workouts and I am very excited to tell you all about their new program. I had my baby many moons ago, however my sister is six week post-partum and so we decided to get fit together with the help of Aaptiv. Come and find out how we got on with the app...

 


But first...What is Aaptiv?

Aaptiv, in a nutshell is a personal trainer in your pocket.
 
It's also known as a handy smart phone app with a purpose to help you through your workouts, whatever they may be. When you open the app, you’re presented with a range of different workout options from pure strength training to numerous forms of cardio. I have found that Aaptiv is so much more than a standard fitness app, I think what makes this app so unique is that during your workouts you are accompanied by a virtual personal trainer who helps you along you way.

Everyone at Aaptiv understands that gym memberships, classes and personal trainers are not always at hand for some people. That's why this app is so great, as it allows the person using the app to have the ability to enjoy their favourite workouts classes and have the motivational nature of personal training all in the comfort of their own home. I am a bit of an introvert. So nothing scares me more than the thought of standing in front of a mirror in a baggy t-shirt and leggings watching all my wobbly flying up and down whilst listening to an over enthusiastic trainer yell at me to go faster. Aaptiv is the perfect way to keep fit but in the comfort of my own home.


However, despite how amazing this app really is the development team soon realised that there was another gap in the market that needed some attention. Pregnant women. Once you become pregnant gyms and classes tend to take it easy on you and prohibit the use of certain machines and certain types of work out. It seems as if pregnant women lacked a range of challenging and safe workout they could do anywhere. Well until now...

Let me introduce you to the Maternity Program with Aaptiv.

Aaptiv and their maternity workout series includes both cardio and strength training, which is perfect for mamas on the go. You simply select your workout on the app, pop your earphones in and get to work with your personal trainer encouraging you along the way.  There are workouts and plans for each trimester and even that one step further by providing a unique workout for each specific week of pregnancy, so you will be able to amend your workout as your bump grows. In the first trimester program you will still be able to do certain core exercises so you are not as limited in what you can do, as your bump is yet to arrive. As you get into the second and third trimester there will be certain exercises that need to be modified as you bump gets bigger and perhaps even begin exercises that you haven't considered before pregnancy.  

First Trimester

The pre and post-natal trainers will guide you through safe and effective workouts that are specially designed for the first trimester of pregnancy. Each class is modified with each week of pregnancy but there are a few options for each week so you can alternate each day of that specific week. My sister and I try out 'Week 8: Baby Ready Bootcamp' which was a full body work out that is aimed to help beat fatigue and build endurance with the strength workout that has you undergoing circuit training, jumping jacks, planks and so much more. It's quite hard, but was lots of fun.
 
Second Trimester
 
The second trimester is the middle three months of your pregnancy. You will start to look and feel pregnant. This is a time when lots of women tell the world they’re pregnant and begin to feel like the pregnancy is more ‘real’. As well as feeling and looking more pregnant during these weeks, you may also have more energy than you did in the first trimester. This will come as a great relief if you have been struggling with sickness, tiredness or anxiety about getting through the first trimester. The work outs in this trimester include two cardio and two strength classes each week. The workout that was a favourite with my sister and I was 'Week 14: Lower Body Shake' which focuses on circuit workouts featuring longer intervals with shorter recovery periods. This was also a hard one, and I wasn't even pregnant.
 
Stroller Workouts

These stroller workouts are perfect for new mamas and appropriate for all fitness levels. These workouts combine strength moves, walking, and light jogging. These workouts have been designed my professional coaches to help you heal your muscles after having your baby. Even though I had my baby many moons ago my sister has just has her baby so we decided to try and get fit together. Our favourite programs throughout the stroller workout was the 'Stroller Strength 20' which is a total body cardio and strength training. The moves are paired, like push-ups and squat jacks, which is perfect for and effective and fast body burn. The work out begins with 1 minute strength move, 30 seconds of cardio, and then you'll have 1 minute to recover, before repeating. You do this circuit 6 times with 6 different pairs. This was by far a worthy workout and you will sure get your fitness level back up to scratch with these stroller workouts.

  2. Sounds fantastic - I love the sound of the stroller workouts. I couldn't have survived without my running stroller after having my first baby. Great idea to do strength workouts along side too. x

  3. It sounds like a great idea to provide pre and post-natal workouts which are safe and appropriate. It's a time when lots of women think about their health, so it's good that you have the guidance and best of all, reassurance about doing the right kinds of exercise.
